Persons appointed to this position will receive the privileges and benefits associated with regular employment status. Duties: * Identify and evaluate new inventions, particularly in the fields of human life sciences, engineering, physical sciences, or software. * Proactively seek new discoveries at The University of Iowa (UI). * Develop and manage the IP management strategy. * Meet with faculty, staff and students to better understand new inventions. * Prepare and present technical and patentability analysis regarding UI inventions. * Create marketing descriptions of UI technologies and keep them available on the UI Research Foundation (UIRF) website. * Work with UIRF staff, external stakeholders and partners. Education Required: * A Master''s degree in a technical field or a JD specializing in intellecutaul property law or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Required: * Considerable (1-3 years) experience in intellectual property prosecution or screening. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Exceptional interpersonal skills. * Must be proficient in computer software applications. * A demonstrated ability to manage simultaneously time-sensitive competing projects. Desirable Qualifications: * A Ph.D. in a technical field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. * J.D. specializing in intellectual property law or the equivalent combination of education and experience. * Considerable (3-5 years) academic intellectual property commercialization experience. * Considerable (3-5 years) experience in intellectual property prosecution or screening as either a practicing patent attorney or a patent agent.
